Area Code Tryouts for 2019 were kicked off on Wednesday at Judson University in Elgin, IL.

There was no shortage of talent on Wednesday as Area Code Baseball hosted the 2022 class tryout for the Chicago White Sox at Judson University in Elgin, IL.  Several players stood out in multiple categories that included the 60, Infield Velo, Pop Times, Catcher's Velo, and Exit Velo.

Outfielder Hogan Schmitt led the way in the 60 with an impressive time of 6.81 seconds while Shortstop Ian Choi was not close behind with a time of 6.84 seconds.  Outfielders Michael Lippe, Michael Mulhollon and Ramon Jimerson all ran a 6.9 and two more outfielders, Kamrin Cox and Dillon Head, ran a 6.91 and 6.93 respectively to round out the sub-seven second times.

Three third baseman topped the leaderboard for Infield Velo as Mitchell Voit recorded 85 mph on his best throw followed by Keegan Knutson (84 mph) and Mason Buss (83.3 mph).  Shortstops Logan Wagner (83 mph) and Gavin Kilen (83 mph) round out the top 5 in an impressive showing from the infielders.

Behind the plate, one catcher recorded a pop time under two seconds as Nathen Voss recorded a 1.97 pop time.  The rest of the pack was not far behind as times from Hayden Christiansen (2.01), Nick Lacson (2.03) and Kyree Alexander (2.03) followed Voss’ leading time.  On the velocity side, Christiansen and Voss found themselves in the top-two again with Christiansen leading the way this time around with his best throw clocking in at 76 mph while  Voss recorded a throw of 73 mph.  Sean McGurk and Heath Venne had the next best throws, each clocking in at 72 mph.

After a splendid showing in the field, the players took to the plate for a round of swings to measure their exit velocity.  3B/OF Mitchell Voit and first baseman Nicholas Kolze tied for the hardest hit balls at 97 mph.  Outfielder Michael Lippe was not far behind with a recorded exit velocity of 96 mph followed by shortstop Logan Wagner and third baseman Keegan Knutson who both recorded an exit velocity of 94 mph.  Ten more players notched exit velocities of 90+ mph to end the day of tryouts at Judson.

An abundance of skill was on display in front of scouts but the top players that stood out to me on Wednesday (in no particular order) were Michael Lippe, Keegan Knutson, Hayden Christiansen, Mitchell Voit and Nathen Voss.  It will be exciting to watch these promising young players develop throughout their careers with a busy summer right around the corner.
